Are you one of the pupils pictured here studying 25 years ago?

The pictures were taken for the September 19, 1986 edition of the Gazette at a time when Kings Langley School’s future was in doubt.

The threat of closure loomed over the school but parents, pupils and staff were prepared to put their all into fighting to save it.

Plans were being put in motion by the county council’s Secondary School sub-committee, which could have seen it merged with Mountbatten School in Hemel Hempstead.

But Kings Langley parents bombarded councillors with more than 200 letters of protest.

The headmaster of the day, Dennis Aldridge, claimed that the school didn’t have the declining numbers that the council had suggested, and that numbers would be up if buses were provided.
