Berkhamsted’s Westfield First School is hoping to get as many of its past pupils and staff as possible to join its 50th birthday celebrations on Friday.

There will be a barbecue, ice cream from vintage van Elsie, barn dance and live music by folk trio The Devine Family Band and during the 3.30pm to 9pm festivities.

Headteacher Dolores Bennett said 1963 was an important year. It marked the beginning of Beatlemania, Martin Luther King’s I Have a Dream speech and the first woman in space as well as the opening of Westfield First School.

Mrs Bennett said: “We are inviting people who attended the school as pupils, teachers or support staff to get in touch and share their stories and join the celebrations at the school.”

Entry is free and the event is open to everybody. For more information, phone the school on 01442 862729 or visit www.westfieldfirst.herts.sch.uk
