A pub chain is offering free coffee to keep fitters after a personal trainer was thrown out of Costa Coffee for wearing her sports bra and leggings.

Oakman Inns has reacted to the news by serving up free cups of coffee to women who turn up in their sports bras.

Chief executive Peter Borg-Neal said: “We happily serve MAMILs (middle aged men in lycra) so why discriminate against the ladies?

“When you’re seeing your friends for a quick cup of coffee, having to dress for the occasion seems to me to be rather missing the point of sociability.

“Costa’s behaviour is frankly a bit silly. By giving a free cup of coffee to people who are wearing a sports bra and leggings we’re showing our support for people everywhere who want to keep fit and stay social.”

The Costa incident happened at a store in Sutton.

Oakman Inns, which is well known for supporting local rugby clubs, is offering a free drink to sporty women for the whole of today (Friday).

The brand operates The Akeman in Tring, The Kings Arms and The Penny Farthing Hotel, both in Berkhamsted, and The Red Lion at Water End, Hemel Hempstead.
