Robert Harling’s weepie Steel Magnolias is the latest offering from the Front Row Theatre Group which plucks its members from the Eaton Bray and Edlesborough area.

Steel Magnolias is hilarious and touching. It would be easy to label it a “woman’s play” but there’s a lot that men can learn by watching the story unfold.

Harling wrote the play in the 1980s following the death of his sister and the experience proved cathartic. The story is set in a beauty parlour in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Through four scenes, spanning three years, the ladies who run the shop and the clients who visit, engage in small-town gossip, running the gamut of the birth, marriage and death.

The big screen version featured Dolly Parton, Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Daryl Hannah, and Julia Roberts and it broke our hearts.

Steel Magnolias runs from February 21 to 23 at Eaton Bray Hall. There will be a bar from 7pm each night.

For tickets call the box office 01525 222283.
