The film about a photographer who travels the country snapping football scenes will be shown at the cinema his grandfather opened.

Stuart Roy Clarke, 41, began his The Homes of Football photography project in 1989 after the Hillsborough disaster.

He said: “I wanted to show the beauty of a nation, even if a lot of what its people say and do is not beautiful, and to show the beauty of football that is ever more a world game, and to keep on showing it.”

The former student of Westfield First School in Durrants Lane, Northchurch, and Berkhamsted School in Castle Street, still works on the project to this day.

A 12-minute film on him, with a soundtrack by Brighton rock band British Sea Power, will be shown before every main feature at The Rex in September.

It was Stuart’s grandfather who opened the Berkhamsted cinema in 1938 while he was mayor of the town.
