A marketing executive who made the brave decision to turn her back on working for big name brands and pursue her passion for photography is making great strides in her new career.

After less than 18 months in operation, Hemel Hempstead-based Nina Mace – who specialises in modern, natural portraits of bumps, babies, children and families – has scooped two top awards to set the seal on her expanding business.

Nina, who in her previous career was involved in blue chip names like Green & Blacks and David Lloyd, is cock-a-hoop over her latest success.

She said: “It’s true what they say, if you do what you love, it doesn’t feel like work. Having children made we want to capture as much of them growing up as possible and I love doing this for other families, too.

“I especially enjoy photographing outdoors, giving children the space to run and have fun – this often makes for the most natural images.

“The majority of my customers are families in Hemel Hempstead and we go out and about to take advantage of some of Hemel’s lovely outdoor locations.”

Nina, of Delmar Avenue in Leverstock Green, has a six-year-old son at school in the town and a daughter aged three. She’s lived in Hemel Hempstead for more than 15 years.

Recognition from her peers has come in the form of two prestigous awards from The Guild of Photographers. Two of her portraits have received bronze bars in the organisation’s hotly-contested image of the month competition.

Guild director Lesley Thirsk said: “I am delighted that Nina has achieved this bar. The guild has very demanding standards. Judging is undertaken by a panel of experts from a variety of backgrounds.”
