Response to article about horse trampling boy on Boxmoor
I was very interested to read this article as I was on the moor the same afternoon that this incident happened with my husband and children. My daughter wanted to look at the ponies and as we walked towards them across the moor, the ponies started to run because a group of children aged around 10 - 14 were shouting and chasing them! Whilst I was very sorry to hear what happened to the young boy, I even recognised one of the boys from the photograph as being one of the boys doing the chasing and I had even said to my husband that something terrible was going to happen if they carried on doing this and we were both wondering where their parents were. There were several picnicing
families near to the river and my husband was worried about some of these families that had snmall children with them, because the horses were getting so frightened by what was happening to them. About 10 minutes after we left to walk back along the canal, we saw the ambulance
> helicopter so we must have left just minutes before the incident happened. I wish the boy a full recovery but hope that other children and parents of children that play on the moor give some thought to how they 'play' with the horses. They are powerful creatures that should command respect and there was certainly a lot more than 'clapping and singing' going on on this particular occasion.

both my husband and i have lived in hemel for 13 years and we have seen how this town has deteriated,the public toilets are disgusting are they checked by the hse? if they should be.Also the roads are in desperate need of repair, the ROMANS built far superior.Hope you print this letter thank you

I wonder which brain of Britain came up with the idea of painting double yellow lines along the already limited parking bay outside the main sorting office in Hemel? How are you meant to collect a parcel that the postperson can't deliver? What is the point of having a posting box there if you can't park? CRAZY!

Ah, bless him, DBC Chief Exec Daniel Zammit is 'upset' about the publication of his expense claims - I'll bet he's upset - upset he got caught out. I cannot believe it is council policy for the cost of hiring of an outfit for a garden party can be considered a reasonable expense to claim - if the man is attending an official function as part of his job (for which he is paid a handsome 125K+) then it's his responsibility to dress himself - I can just imagine the hilarity such a claim would be met with in industry. And as to the 800 TV - maybe it is needed in his office - but since when did purchases like this get made through expenses? Don't the council have a purchase order system for proper authorisation? or is it just that Mr Zammit is excused having to use it. Outrageous.

I moved out of Hemel when I was 18 and have recently moved back (now 28). What is going on with the roads? There are potholes everywhere and no resurfacing efforts anywhere as far as I can tell. From Northridge Way in Warners End to outside Adeyfield School the state is absolutely appauling. What the hell am I paying road tax for? Having travelled the world I have come across better road surfaces in Africa. Vote these feckless half wits out next week and get someone in who can be bothered to do something about the condition of our roads.

I just wanted to make people aware (relating to the 'land-grabbing') article that planning permission is being sought again to build 5 houses on land at the gardens of 14,15 and 16 Ellesmere Road. The planning council initially refused the permission outright but an appeal was made. The plans are greatly opposed by many many residents of the area and if passed will have a massive affect on the quality of life of all whose gardens back on to the land and the feel of the area in general.

Isn't the new space created by the removal of the market stalls exciting? What a great space for community activity. Perhaps we could start by having our very own 'Big Lunch' there on 19th July. You know everyone could bring their picnic chairs and packed lunch, may be a musical instrument and we could join the rest of the nation. But no, wait, there would be Health and Safety, a music licence and public liability insurance and so on and so on. If only the community could show the bureaucrats who make our public life so joyless what they think but I couldn't possibly encourage it.......
