Volunteers are needed to help spread some festive cheer over the Christmas period.

Hemel Hempstead’s Salvation Army has put out a call for help during Christmas week to ensure that nobody goes without a celebration meal or a Christmas gift.

The real life Santas are needed to deliver presents and toys to families in need in the week leading up to Christmas.

Helpers are also needed on Christmas Eve to set up for the annual Christmas dinner at the Citadel in Waterhouse Street, Hemel Hempstead.

Volunteers will prepare food and put out the tables and chairs ready for the big day.

Cheery drivers who are happy to volunteer on Christmas Day are needed to pick up dinner guests from their homes at midday and take them back at around 3.30pm. Helpers are also needed to deliver meals on wheels to homes from 11am to 12.30pm.

> Volunteering isn’t just for Christmas so why not visit a lonely older person and brighten up more than one day? The team at Age UK Dacorum offers support and companionship to older people in hospital or in their own homes.

Hospital visitors are needed to visit older patients who are being treated in Hemel Hempstead Hospital.

The right volunteer would be free for an hour or more each week in the afternoon or evening to coincide with hospital visiting times.

Many older people who live on their own can go for days without having anyone to talk to.

Volunteer befrienders are also needed to visit older people in their own homes for a friendly chat and a cup of tea, to take a trip to the shops together or to go for a walk. Times are flexible to suit you both, and own transport preferred.

> Age UK Dacorum and the Alzheimers Society have teamed up to make sure that older people with memory problems can enjoy a social and singing group. The group meets at Crawley Drive in Grovehill each Tuesday afternoon from 1.30pm until 4pm.

Volunteer drivers are needed to collect people from home, accompany them to the singing for fun group, and then take them home. If you have your own transport and enjoy the company of older people Age UK Dacorum would love to hear from you.
