Trust launches new dance campaign
Watford FC CSE Trust has developed a new program designed to encourage elderly people to return to dance in later life.
The Life With Dance scheme is running a series of new Zumba Gold sessions in Dacorum and Watford, and organisers are urging people to get on board.
Studies have shown that exercise in later life helps to maintain a healthy body, improving mental health and reducing risk of dementia and heart failure. It can also improve balance, flexibility and strength.
Danielle Rutter, the dance development officer at Watford CSE trust, said: “Sometimes gyms can be intimidating, sometimes it’s nicer to be able to go to your local hall. We wanted to find an easy and fun way to encourage people to get back into exercising and dance – Zumba Gold is the perfect fit.”
Zumba Gold has been specifically designed for older participants and those new to exercise.
Using easy to follow moves and a slower pace than regular Zumba, it allows everyone to take part, including those who are in wheelchairs or who cannot stand for long periods of time.
Danielle added: “Active older adults want camaraderie, excitement and fitness as a regular part of their weekly schedule.
“This is a great way for the participants to get together and have fun – there are no targets or goals other than enjoying themselves and exercising at their own pace.”
