Rotary can help volunteers stay in the game

Anyone whose appetite for volunteering was whetted by this summer’s many Olympics events has been offered a way to stay in the game.

Rotary Club members were among the thousands of volunteers who helped the 2012 Games go with a swing, both in London and locally.

But for Rotarians, as members of the largest service in the world, volunteering was no once-in-a-lifetime challenge.

They get involved throughout the year in projects both at home and overseas – and they’re keen to recruit anyone who wants to continue their involvement in community challenges.

“Rotary offers a world of opportunities for everyone,” says Sue Thornton, the president of Wendover and District Rotary Club which draws members from the Tring area.

“Whether you want to help organise a teddy bears picnic for local children, run a bra collecting project to aid breast cancer care, or a concert to support Help for Heroes and the Chiltern MS Centre, Rotary is an organisation that can facilitate all of this”.

“Volunteering is easy with Rotary. All you need is a bit of time, energy and a desire to make a difference. Many people join because they want to give something back.

“What amazes them is what they get back in return. They discover new skills, new-found confidence and a group of new friends who all have the same idea, to improve the lives of others.
