PLANS are in motion for a big celebratory bash to be held in Gadebridge Park, Hemel Hempstead, this summer to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Funding of £3,000 is also being made available to both Berkhamsted and Tring town councils, and £1,000 is being made available to each of the 14 villages in the borough, to put towards celebrations.

According to Dacorum Borough Council the plans are in the early stages of development but will include a variety of entertainment and involve as many people as possible.

Council officers are meeting with community and voluntary groups from across Dacorum today to discuss the plans further.

Dacorum Borough Council’s 2012 officer Gill Barber said: “The Gadebridge Park event for the Jubilee is still very much in the planning stages but is shaping up to be a great day with lots of events for families, and a firework finale following the lighting of a beacon on bank holiday Monday, June 4.

“Dacorum Borough Council haS allocated some money (£3,000 for Berkhamsted, £3,000 for Tring, and £1,000 to 14 villages) to parish and town councils to help celebrate the Jubilee.

“The funding will be available from April.”

Bovingdon parish clerk Mike Kember said: “We have to apply for the funding and send a letter across to Dacorum detailing what we want to do.

“It was a pleasant surprise, however, and a great piece of news, it will really help us to cover the costs.”

The news comes as the Queen kicks off the celebrations for her 60th year on the throne this week.

On Monday a 21-gun Royal Salute rang out in Edinburgh, and the Queen visited several schools. A special commemorative stamp is being brought out this year.
