Full house as UKIP sets out its stall ahead of county elections

Waiting for Video...

‘Get us out of Europe’ party UKIP is planning to field a record number of candidates in May’s Herts County Council elections, and has already named the people who will be wearing its colours in every ward in Dacorum.

The candidates who will be fighting for Hemel Hempstead seats were among those who gathered at Hemel Hempstead Cricket Club on Thursday night to hear a hard-hitting presentation from UKIP MEP Stuart Agnew.

The Norfolk farmer, who represents the East Of England, gave a whistlestop tour of ways in which the European Community impacts on UK life and appealed to supporters to back them at the ballot box.

He referred to the previous week’s Eastleigh by-election, in which his party beat the Conservatives into third place, and said: “After Eastleigh, no political commentator has said that this is UKIP’s high point, because they know there is more to come. It just needs courage.”

Old Town dentist Howard Koch, who will be standing for election in May, told the audience: “It’s standing room only at our second event. It’s a complete sellout, but not in a Liberal Democrat sense.”
