Villages have the chance to put themselves in the running for a much-coveted award.

The Campaign to Protect Rural England is holding its eleventh Hertfordshire Village of the Year award.

Competition organiser Jo Simson said: "Don't think it could be your village? Think again.

"This has to be a great opportunity for you to showcase your villages and win recognition for your vibrant communities."

Small villages - with between 500 and 1,000 inhabitants – and large villages, with populations up to 6,000, are both able to enter.

Judges will pay attention to environment, business, people and communications in East, North and West Herts before choosing an overall winner.

Any individual or group can organise and entry provided it is countersigned by the parish council chairman of clerk and is submitted by April 29.

For more information or an entry form, call Jo Simson on 01438 717587 or email office@cpreherts.org.uk
